Development Challenges of the District

•The location of Afransi (District Capital) which is farther away from the urban and urbanizing communities in the District such as Nyanyano, Budumburam, Fetteh, Akotsi, Ojobi Potsin, Dominase among others have left the land and land use administration very difficult and challenging.

•Nyanyano as one of the major potential economic activity and investment area is subject to the seismic activity due to the fault line that runs through the Weija Lake and McCarthy hill.

•The potential tourism in the area is being threatened by the unregulated demarcation of plots in the area which if not checked would result in haphazard development in the area, thereby destroying the potential tourism investment in the area.

•The poor condition of road from Akotsi junction inhibits transportation of inhabitants in these areas.

•Fetteh with it current status of one of the main tourist areas has the tendency to attract the urban population, therefore urgent land use plans are required to protect the area from the rapid pressure of uncontrolled urbanization in the area.

•The insecurity in the Budumburam community in terms of theft is one major inhibiting factor for the needed investment in the area.

•The salt and fishing industry in Nyanyano lacks the needed infrastructure to enhance this potential.

•The lack of land use plans and the effective implementation of the existing inadequate ones are potentially destroying the beauty of the district since the district is endowed with very sensitive ecological system to ensure a natural balance between environmental conservation and land use development.
