The West Gonja District is one of the 26 districts in the Northern Region, with its administrative capital at Damango.
About 30% of the district’s land represents forest reserves and Mole National Park.
The district shares common boundaries with Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district on the west, Wa East and West Mamprusi on the north.
The district also shares boundaries with North Gonja to the East and Central Gonja on the south.
The district is endowed with natural game resources and many tourist sites.
The population of the district according to 2010 population and housing census stands at 41,180 with 20,681 males and 20,499 females.
