The Old Tafo Municipal is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 43 of MMDAs in the Ashanti Region. 

The Old Tafo Municipal Assembly is carved out of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly as one of the 38 newly created and upgraded District Assemblies in 2018.

Created with LI 2293, the Old Tafo Municipal Assembly has its capital as Old Tafo.

It was inaugurated on March 15, 2018 alongside other 37 newly created districts.   

The Municipality covers a total land area of approximately 31.13 square kilometer and is located between Latitude 6.42 oN and 6.45 oN and Longitude 1.35 oW and 1.37 oW.

The Old Tafo Municipality is located in the center of the region bounded by sister Assemblies as Kwabre East Municipality and Afigya Kwabre North to the north, south and east by Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and to the west by Suame Municipal Assembly.

The population of the Municipality according to 2021 population and housing census stands at 114,368 with 55,086 male and 59,282 female.
