Amenfi Central (Wassa Amenfi Central) District with its administrative capital Manso Amenfi was carved from Wassa Amenfi East and forms part of the new districts and municipalities created in the year 2012 and were inaugurated at their various locations simultaneously on the 28th June, 2012.
The District forms part of twenty three (23) Metropolitan, Municipalities and Districts in the Western Region of Ghana.
It has an estimated land size of 1,845.9 square kilometres with 131 communities. It is bounded to the North by Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal and Upper Denkyira West Districts and Sefwi-Wiaso Municipal; to the north-west by Aowin Municipal; to the south by Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal; to the east by Amenfi East District and to the west by Amenfi West District. It lies between latitudes 5 o 20’N and 6o 7’N and longitudes 2 o 9’W and 2o 27’W.
The population of the district according to 2010 population and housing census stands at 69,014 with 35,866 males and 33,148 females.
