On Tuesday, 22nd January, 2019 at the Municipal Chief Executive’s office, a twelve member committee to oversee the establishment of the newsletter was inaugurated. This is also divided into two, the editorial team and the technical assistants.

The editorial team consist of Hon. The technical assistants also consist of Mr. Emmanuel Kwame Dordzie Jr. as the I.T Officer, Mrs Margaret Asiedu as the secretary, Miss Agnes Nkansah as the media relations, Mrs Eugenia Larbi and Miss Sarah Nkrumah-Sarkodie.

Members came to an agreement that membership can be expanded to involve other people especially heads of departments who can provide relevant information for the newspaper.

The Municipal Coordinating Director gave a brief statement about why the committee was formed and also the ESMA Newspaper initiative.

He stated that information in the newspaper will also be published on the assembly’s website and Facebook page so that people can also get access to the softcopy and also members of the committee will have to live up to expectation to ensure we have a credible newspaper.

The ESMA Newspaper will be segmented to social, economic, religious, political issues and developmental projects. Also, there will be a cultural column to promote tourism in the municipality. The Director of N.C.C.E suggested that the ESMA Newspaper should not only highlight the strength of the assembly but also the challenges of the assembly.

The Municipal Chief Executive said the prime focus of the newsletter is to provide information on the municipality to help sell the assembly to the outside world. To this end, he admonished Heads of Departments to be informed to always bring on board their reports so that certain vital information can be added to the ESMA newspaper.

The committee also suggested that a feedback desk should be established for those who will get in touch with the ESMA newspaper. The proposed colour for the newspaper was green and there will be external and internal distribution of the newspaper.

The external distribution will include all district and municipal assemblies in Ghana, Local Government Ministry and the office of the presidency.

The internal distributions on the other hand will include schools, the library, Nananom, Heads of Departments, etc.

The name of the newspaper is yet to be proposed and it was suggested that emphasis should also be based on the number of pages the newspaper should have.

The committee agreed to meet every week but Mr. Abdul-Aziz Musah was of the view that meetings should be scheduled to every two or three weeks. Matters such as the source of income to finance the newspaper among others were also discussed.
