As the deadline for the SIM card registration has been extended by the minister of Communication and Digitalisation to 31st September 2022, many have raised the question if the National Identification Authority (NIA) will be able to issue cards to the citizens in time.
The Executive Secretary of the NIA, Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, disclosed that the authority will not be able to issue out all cards by the deadline set by the Minister of Communication and Digitalisation.
He, however, explained why some registrants have not been issued their cards.
“There are people who have double-registered. That is potentially a criminal offense. Those ones are being individually investigated. There are those whose cards have gone into adjudication, not because of double registration but because they have sought to change their vital data in the custody of the authority, such as bio-data. For such people, the system arrests their application, and it joins a queue.” The Executive Secretary said until such issues are addressed, those cards will not be issued’’.
The National Identification Authority (NIA) is to begin the registration of Ghanaians below the age of 15 starting in 2023. Acting Head of Corporate Affairs at the NIA, Abudu Abdul Ganiyu made this revelation on Joy FM Prime Morning show on Monday 1st August 2022.
