The inauguration which was earlier scheduled for February 6, 2024 had to be postponed today.

The event follows the successful conduct of the District Level Election (DLEs) in December, 2023 and the subsequent election of new Assembly Members for various MMDAs.

In a statement dated 22/01/2024 and signed by the Ministry of local government and decentralization directed all MMDAs to take necessary steps and hold themselves in readiness for successful inauguration.

The ministry also urged all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives and Coordinating Directors to hold the fort and ensure smooth operation in all MMDAs until the new Assembly members are sworn into office and all assemblies are duly inaugurated.
