The training workshop being conducted on the theme: “Strategic Environmental Assessment” is aimed at equipping participants with tools to conduct strategic environmental assessment on policies and programmes the assemblies intend to undertake.
This second phase is being held for MMDAs in Eastern, Ashanti, and Central regions; and involves officials including coordinating directors, planning officers as well as budget analysts.
Some of the participants that spoke with ghanadistricts.com during the programme expressed delight at the opportunity particularly because most of the MMDAs are seriously preparing their Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP) for 2018 – 2021. As such having in-depth understanding on how to integrate environmental sustainability issues in their plan becomes very relevant.
Others were also of the view that having been exposed to environmental impact assessment will guide them to design their programmes and policies with the view of protecting the physical environment including natural resources so that the future generation is not unduly punished
