Fisheries Ministry engages the media
The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, and the Fisheries Commission, as part of their grand agenda of reaching out to the Ghanaian populace with the Ministries programmes and policies, engaged the media to enlighten them on issues the ministry is working on.

Interacting with the media during a press soiree, The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture development, Elizabeth Afoley Quaye underscored the significant roles of the media in helping the ministry carry its policies and programmes to the larger populace, but particularly major stakeholders like the fisher folks who are directly affected by their work.






She said an effective way is to first educate the media to grasp firm understanding of their operations in order to adequately disseminate information to the public. It is in light of this, that the media was provided the opportunity to interact and find answers to the many questions that may be begging for answers and to know how far the Ministry has come by way of implementing its programmes.


Attended by high powered leadership of the Ministry including the Minister and Directors of the various sectors under the ministry, journalist received briefings on upcoming programmes that are designed in line with the agenda of curbing the fast depletion of fish stocks in the countries waters, production of wholesome fish, as well as creating jobs and reducing unemployment.





Madam Afoley particularly appealed to the media to intensify education on the effects of illegal fishing practices in order to sustain and improve on the gains made so far.


He said the world is watching every activity in the fishing sector, and our non-adherence to good practices would deprive the country of foreign exchange since no country will be willing to but our fish and that will affect the fisher folks.





On pre-mix fuel, the Minister was glad that supply has improved tremendously, that they do not have issues with shortages, however, there are still issues of diversion of the pre-mix and warned that the law will not be lenient on the culprits if they are found, thus urging all those involved to obey laid down rules governing the distributions of the pre-mix.
