Goaso is capital of Ahafo Region
As anticipated by many, Goaso, the Municipal capital of the Asunafo North Municipal Assembly has been named the regional capital for the newly created Ahafo Region.

Carved out of the Brong Ahafo Region, the Ahafo Region is one of six newly created regions in the country.

President, Nana Addo Akufo-Addo, on February 13, 2019 at the Jubilee House made the announcement at a ceremony to present the Constitutional Instrument to give legal backing to the new region.

The ceremony was witnessed by some prominent members of the region including Chiefs and opinion leaders.

After the referendum by the electoral commission in December witnessed massive endorsement for the creation of the new six regions, a number of towns, Goaso, Mim, Hwidiem, Kenyasi, Duayaw Nkwanta, and Bechem were all in contention to be named the regional capital.



However, the president haven chosen Goaso ahead of all the other towns means the rest would have to rally around the core principle of establishing the new region, that is accelerated development and make sure that is achieved.

Ahafo Region like all the other new regions has a seed capital of 20 million Ghana Cedis to start with to ensure it gets staff firm as soon as possible.
