K NCHUMURU: DCE advocates for voluntary HIV testing

Mr. Augustine Appiah, District Chief Executive of the Krachi Nchumuru District has encouraged citizens to voluntary get tested for HIV to know their status and seek early treatment if tested HIV positive.

According to him, this is the only way we can, as a nation, eliminate AIDS by the year 2030 as stipulated by UNAIDS.

The DCE who was speaking to mark World AIDS Day which coincided with the 33rd National Farmers’ day stated that World AIDS Day is particularly important, because HIV affects everyone irrespective of age or status. As such if we allow our farmers and fishermen, and for that matter the working class to be affected by HIV, they would become less productive and we would be left worse off.

Though the global theme was "The Right to Health", Ghana has chosen "the Right to Health: know your HIV status, seek early treatment" as the national theme, with the key message for observation of the day as “Test and Treat”.

Mr. Appiah also appealed to the private sector and other philanthropists to support the Assembly within the context of their corporate social responsibility to secure the needed funds to support regional HIV and AIDS responses.

“Persons living with HIV are dear to the nation and we will continue to provide them with the necessary care and support and we will work at strengthening NAP+ Ghana and its support groups to reduce new infections among the general and key populations”, he pledged.
