The District Chief Executive for West Gonja District in the Northern
Region, Mr. Adam Mutawakilu has charged assembly members to work hard towards local revenue mobilization in the area.

He maintained that if the assembly has to rely on Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to operate, then members of the house need to do better in the area of revenue generation in their various
electoral areas.

He noted that some area councils are not working towards revenue generation, hence his appeal to them as representatives of the house to work hard towards improving the revenue base of the assembly.

The DCE made this call at the 2nd ordinary assembly meeting at Damongo the district capital.

He disclosed the total amount of revenue realised by the assembly from April to June this year as GH¢2,188.90 with a break down of the various councils as follows;usunu GH¢ 298.00, Damongo-Nil, Mankarigu-GH¢1,000.00, Daboya- GH¢ 667.90, Laribanga- GH¢ 225.00 and Lingbinsi-Nil.

Mr Mutawakilu however, indicated that, inspite of all the challenges with revenue, the assembly continues to improve on infrastructure provision for various communities in the district.

This he said was aimed at raising the standard of living as promised by President Mills.

He mentioned among other things that contracts for the construction of three classroom blocks for Jinfrono, Tidrope and Gbasimpa have been awarded under the "School under tree" project initiated by government to weed out ppupils attending schools under trees in the country.

On the Fulfulso-Damongo-Sawla Road, the DCE noted that the Vice President, Mr. John Dramani Mahama’s effort to ensure that the Fulfulso-Damongo-Sawla Road is constructed by 2012, is yielding positive response, adding that "the African Development Bank team who were here last April for consultation with the communities along the road are in the country to finalise negotiation for construction to start in 2011’’ and observed that the construction of this road will open up the district for a speedy development.
