The initiative, spearheaded by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, forms part of the Assembly's broader strategy to enhance sanitation services, improve public health and maintain a cleaner and safer municipality.
The newly acquired equipment includes four Apsonic AP150 ZH-175 tricycles, popularly known as Motor Kings, and two AP200GY Cross Desert multi-purpose motorbikes, commonly referred to as Jungle Motors. The Assembly has also distributed more than 100 waste bins, which have been strategically placed at vantage points across the municipality for public use.
The acquisition is expected to significantly strengthen waste collection, sanitation monitoring and enforcement activities within the municipality.
The tricycles will be used for refuse collection and other sanitation-related operations, while the motorbikes will enable Environmental Health Officers to conduct patrols, inspections and monitoring exercises in communities, enforce sanitation regulations and engage residents on proper environmental practices.
Speaking during a brief handing-over ceremony, Hon. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi underscored the importance of the investment, describing it as a critical step towards building a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Wenchi.
She reiterated the Assembly's commitment to promoting environmental sanitation and safeguarding public health through innovative interventions and improved logistics.
The MCE called on residents to support the Assembly's sanitation agenda by complying with sanitation regulations, practising proper waste disposal and adhering to basic environmental health principles.
She further advised residents to expect increased engagements from Environmental Health Officers, who will intensify monitoring activities, disease vector control programmes and food hygiene inspections to ensure healthier communities.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit, the Municipal Environmental Health Analyst and Head of the Unit, Madam Gertrude Lenseni, expressed appreciation to the Assembly for the timely intervention.
She described the logistics as a major boost to the Unit's operations and assured the Assembly that the equipment would be deployed effectively to improve sanitation services and achieve the desired outcomes.
The intervention is expected to enhance the Assembly's capacity to tackle sanitation challenges, improve waste management and contribute to the creation of a cleaner and more environmentally friendly Wenchi Municipality.
The project is expected to transform trading activities in Gbawe and surrounding communities by providing a modern and secure marketplace that will support round-the-clock business operations.
When completed, the market is anticipated to create employment opportunities for traders, artisans, transport operators and other small-scale entrepreneurs while enhancing local economic development.
Residents and traders have welcomed the commencement of the project, expressing optimism that the facility will improve access to market infrastructure, increase business opportunities and contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the municipality.
The 24-Hour Economy Market forms part of government's broader agenda to stimulate local economies, expand productivity and create sustainable livelihoods through strategic investments in commercial infrastructure.
Stakeholders believe the facility will not only serve as a major commercial hub for Gbawe but also attract businesses and investors from neighbouring communities, further strengthening economic activities within the Weija-Gbawe Municipality.
With site preparation now underway, residents are hopeful that the project will be completed on schedule and deliver lasting benefits to traders and the wider community.
