The District Assembly, in partnership with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), has distributed 1,200 bags of NPK fertiliser to 126 registered farmer-based organisations across the region.

The initiative—part of the government’s broader agricultural recovery agenda—aims to lower production costs, improve crop yields, and strengthen food security in the area.

A Commitment to Agricultural Growth

Speaking at the official distribution ceremony held at Akumadan, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Caeser Ofosu Aheampong, described the programme as a clear demonstration of the government’s dedication to farmers.

“The government is distributing this fertiliser free of charge to support our farmers, boost agricultural production, and reduce the financial burden on them,” he stated.

He further explained that the distribution process has been designed with transparency in mind to ensure the inputs reach the right beneficiaries—the leadership of the various farmer groups, who will in turn pass them on to their members.

Warning Against Misuse

While the gesture has been welcomed by the farming community, the DCE issued a stern caution to beneficiaries against reselling the fertiliser.

“This input is provided specifically to support agricultural production, not for private gain,” Hon. Aheampong emphasised.

He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to working closely with MOFA and other stakeholders to ensure all government interventions in the agricultural sector achieve their intended goals.
