West Akim Assembly Supports 138 PWDs with Livelihood Items and Cash

The West Akim Municipal Assembly, under the leadership of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Paulina Akabila, has supported 138 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) with various livelihood items and cash to promote economic independence and improve their living conditions.

The intervention forms part of the Assembly’s continued efforts to empower PWDs, strengthen their livelihoods and create opportunities for them to engage in sustainable income-generating activities.

Among the items presented to the beneficiaries were 57 deep freezers, two knitting machines, three double-decker fridges, two pepper machines, a pumping machine, 15 bags of charcoal, a shoe-making grinding machine, a chainsaw, a cocoa spraying machine, a sandpaper and spraying machine, 17 fufu pounding machines and an oven.

Other items included 150 plastic chairs, 10 student mattresses, a laptop, 60 ice chests and other livelihood support equipment.

In addition to the physical items, 41 PWDs received cash support to strengthen their existing businesses and income-generating activities.

The initiative was supported by the Member of Parliament for Lower West Akim, Hon. Owen Kwame Frimpong, alongside traditional leaders, the clergy and security services.

The support is expected to enable the beneficiaries to expand their businesses, improve household incomes and become more economically independent while contributing meaningfully to the development of their communities.

The West Akim Municipal Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusion and creating opportunities that enable Persons with Disabilities to live with dignity, support their families and participate fully in the socio-economic development of the municipality.
