Akuapim South Strengthens Local Governance through Capacity Building for Assembly Members

The Akuapim South Municipal Assembly has taken another significant step towards strengthening local governance with the successful organisation of a two-day capacity-building training and workshop for Honorable Assembly Members.

The training, facilitated by experts from the Institute of Local Government Studies, focused on enhancing Assembly Members’ understanding of their mandate, roles, responsibilities, local governance processes and effective representation of their constituents.

Opening the programme, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Paul Osae Offei, underscored the importance of continuous capacity building in developing effective, responsive and accountable local leadership.

The training provided Assembly Members with an opportunity to engage in practical discussions, share knowledge and seek clarification on key aspects of their responsibilities. Participants’ demonstrated strong enthusiasm throughout the sessions, particularly as facilitators explained areas of local governance that had previously been less understood.

The interactive sessions also enabled the Assembly Members to gain a deeper appreciation of their important role as representatives of their communities and partners in local development.

The initiative is being seen as a positive investment in the quality of leadership and governance within the municipality. With better-informed and better-equipped Assembly Members, communities are expected to benefit from stronger representation, improved engagement and more responsive leadership.

The programme further demonstrates the Akuapim South Municipal Assembly’s commitment to accountability, effective community participation and improved service delivery.

The successful completion of the training positions the Assembly Members to engage more effectively with their constituents and contribute meaningfully to the development agenda of Akuapim South Municipality.
