The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has officially launched AshantiFest 2026, an ambitious multi-sectoral festival aimed at unearthing talent, showcasing the region’s comparative advantages, and driving socio-economic development across sports, tourism, culture, education, trade, and more.

The colourful launch event, sponsored by title sponsor MTN Ghana, brought together dignitaries including Kwamang manhene, Barima Debrah Bediako Boateng II and Nana Yaw Akuoko (Otumfuo Assinhene), Chief Director of ARCC, Members of REGSEC, MMDCEs and other traditional and regional leaders.

In his keynote address, Dr. Amoakohene emphasised that AshantiFest is more than a celebration — it is a strategic platform to discover and nurture home-grown talent while highlighting what makes the Ashanti Region a powerhouse in various sectors.

“Last year’s activities yielded tremendous results,” the Minister noted. He expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the government’s budgetary allocation to Kumawood, describing it as a direct outcome of the inaugural AshantiFest. President Mahama recently announced GH¢20 million for the film industry (covering Kumawood and Ghallywood) and another GH¢20 million for broader creative sectors during the 2026 State of the Nation Address.

Dr. Amoakohene highlighted key achievements from the previous edition, including the renovation of the male ward at Kumasi Central Prisons, made possible through sponsor support. He announced that the same sponsor has committed to renovating the female ward this year.

An ongoing inter-district soccer competition, part of efforts to unearth football talent, is expected to identify promising players who will be nurtured into a competitive team representing the region.

This year’s festival will feature a wide range of cross-sectoral activities, including a major trade exhibition designed to boost commerce, attract investment, and promote local entrepreneurship.

The Regional Minister extended an open invitation for partnerships, stating that his office is ready to collaborate with individuals, organisations, and corporate bodies willing to support initiatives that will make the Ashanti Region greater.

“AshantiFest is open to all who share our vision of excellence and progress,” he said.

The launch marks the beginning of what promises to be an even more impactful edition of AshantiFest in 2026, building on the momentum and tangible successes of the maiden event.
