The Minister noted that in terms of safety the old block was in such poor condition that teachers and pupils were risking their lives using the structure for teaching and learning. He added that the new 3-unit classroom block removes that hazard entirely.
The 3-unit classroom block at Kofiko was part of selected projects the Regional Minister was inspecting as part of the government’s “Accounting to the People” series, a regional accountability initiative through which the minister has been moving district by district across the Bono Region to review ongoing infrastructure delivery and hear directly from stakeholders.
The 3-unit classroom block was not just infrastructure, rather the MCE investing directly in her hometown and alma mater, which sets an example for other local leaders. In an interview, she said it was good to give back to the people who made her who she was today. “It was urgent to replace the old classroom block with the new one which has been left for decades”, she said.
Madam Akrasi Adjei Doris, the headteacher of Kofiko primary school said pupil were sharing the building with predators and reptiles due to the dilapidated nature of the structure and thanked both the Regional Minister and the MCE for new 3-unit classroom block. Madam Faustina Adjei, a tutor of the school noted that the pupil and teachers have been exposed to serious hazardous environment at the old classroom block and thanked the MCE for the foresight. The school children were happy for the new building and showered praises for the MCE.
