The three-day operation, which took place from Friday, 3rd July to Sunday, 5th July 2026, targeted major drains in flood-prone areas to restore the free flow of stormwater ahead of the peak of the rainy season. The exercise involved the deployment of three excavators to remove large volumes of silt, sand, refuse, and other debris that had accumulated within the drainage channels over time.

The initiative forms part of the Assembly's ongoing strategy to improve the municipality's drainage system, reduce the incidence of flooding, and enhance public safety during periods of heavy rainfall.

Leading the inspection of the exercise were the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alfredos Nii Anyetei, and the Member of Parliament for the La Dade-Kotopon Constituency and Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah. They were joined by technical personnel from the Municipal Works Department and the Urban Roads Department, who supervised the dredging activities to ensure that the work met the required engineering and operational standards.

Speaking during the exercise, the Municipal Chief Executive reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to implementing practical measures that will strengthen the municipality's resilience against flooding while improving environmental sanitation. He noted that maintaining clear drainage channels remains critical to protecting lives, safeguarding public infrastructure, and preventing damage to property during the rainy season.

The Assembly believes that the successful completion of the dredging exercise will significantly improve the capacity of the drainage network, reduce the obstruction of waterways, and contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.

LaDMA has also called on residents to support the Assembly's efforts by disposing of waste responsibly and avoiding the dumping of refuse into drains. The Assembly emphasized that preventing floods requires collective action and encouraged community members to actively participate in sanitation activities to help maintain clean and functional drainage systems throughout the municipality.
