The exercise focused on the main watercourse running along the Abuakwa–Sunyani Road from DKC, where heavy deposits of silt and debris were removed to improve the free flow of water. The initiative forms part of the Assembly's proactive flood prevention measures as rainfall is expected to intensify in the coming weeks.

During the inspection, the MCE observed that sections of the river and adjoining drainage channels were heavily choked with plastic bottles and indiscriminately dumped refuse, which had significantly obstructed the natural flow of water and increased the risk of flooding.

Mr. Boamah expressed concern over the indiscriminate disposal of waste into drains and water bodies and called on residents to adopt responsible waste management practices.

He appealed to the public to refrain from dumping refuse into gutters, drains, and rivers, particularly during the rainy season, emphasizing that many flooding incidents are caused by human activities rather than natural factors alone.

The MCE stressed that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility and urged residents to work together with the Assembly to keep drainage systems free from waste. He noted that collective action is essential to protecting lives and property, preventing flood disasters, and building a cleaner, safer, and more resilient municipality.

The Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing regular desilting and sanitation exercises while intensifying public education to promote environmental cleanliness and enhance disaster preparedness across the municipality.
