Ayawaso East Intensifies Decongestion Exercise to Reduce Flood Risk

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ayawaso East, Abdul Ganiyu Ibrahim, has intensified the municipality's ongoing decongestion exercise as part of efforts to improve sanitation and reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season.

Leading a municipal task force, the MCE supervised extensive operations across Nima and other parts of the municipality. The exercise included the demolition of unauthorized structures, the removal of vehicles parked along roadsides near drainage channels, the clearing of roadside debris, and the desilting of choked drains.

The intervention is aimed at restoring the free flow of stormwater, eliminating obstructions within drainage systems, and minimizing the impact of flooding on residents and businesses.

The exercise was carried out with the support of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ghana Police Service, and the Municipal Works Department, whose personnel assisted in enforcing the operation and ensuring compliance.

Speaking on the exercise, Mr. Ibrahim reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and resilient municipality, emphasizing that sustained decongestion and environmental sanitation efforts are essential to protecting lives, safeguarding property, and preventing flood-related disasters.

The Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly has urged residents, traders, and motorists to cooperate with the Assembly by keeping roadsides and drainage channels free from obstructions to ensure the long-term success of the initiative.
