As part of the initiative, officials from the Assembly and the GTA undertook a meeting and site assessment on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, to evaluate the tourism potential of the cave and identify the infrastructure needed to develop it to international standards.
The exercise began with a courtesy meeting at the Kwahu South Municipal Assembly before the delegation, led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Effah Osei Bonsu David, accompanied by the Municipal Coordinating Director and members of the Assembly's management team, paid a visit to the Chief of Twenedurase.
During the visit, the MCE reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling a longstanding promise to facilitate the development of the site during his tenure. He formally introduced the Ghana Tourism Authority team to the traditional authorities and sought the Chief's permission to inspect the cave, a request that was readily granted.
The delegation subsequently toured the Nkofieho Mystic Cave and its surrounding attractions, including the renowned Echo Ravine, to assess the site's natural features and determine the improvements required to position it as a premier tourism destination.
The Nkofieho Mystic Cave is renowned for its rich historical and cultural heritage. According to local tradition, the cave served as a sacred refuge and protectorate for ancient warriors who migrated from the Asante Kingdom, making it one of the municipality's most significant historical landmarks.
The proposed development is expected to enhance tourism in the municipality, create employment opportunities for young people, stimulate local businesses, and contribute to the socio-economic growth of the area.
The Kwahu South Municipal Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Ghana Tourism Authority and traditional authorities to unlock the full tourism potential of the Nkofieho Mystic Cave and preserve its cultural heritage for future generations.
