The tour, which included stops at Taste FM, Eastern FM, Freedom FM, Afeema FM, Bryt FM, and Embark FM, served as a platform to discuss his plans to boost revenue, improve sanitation, enforce bye-laws, tackle flooding, and enhance healthcare delivery in the Eastern Regional capital.
A Vision Rooted in Service
Responding to questions about his appointment, Mr. Boakye expressed confidence in his new role, attributing his selection to years of dedicated service to the people of Koforidua. He thanked his supporters and pledged to lead with integrity and commitment.Boosting Internally Generated Funds (IGF)
The MCE identified increasing Internally Generated Funds (IGF) as a top priority. He explained that his administration plans to strengthen revenue collection by engaging taxpayers — particularly those in the informal sector, including market women and commercial drivers — through education and dialogue.
“When citizens see the positive impact of their taxes through visible development, cooperation will naturally increase,” he said.
Sanitation and Flood Control
As the regional capital, Mr. Boakye stressed that Koforidua must be kept clean. He announced a major clean-up exercise scheduled for the upcoming Saturday, focusing on the Central Market area, and called on residents to participate actively.
On the issue of perennial flooding, the MCE acknowledged the city’s vulnerability due to its geography. He assured residents that his administration would develop a strategic plan to improve drainage infrastructure and warned that unauthorised structures on waterways would be removed to prevent future disasters.
Enforcement of Bye-Laws
Mr. Boakye noted that while enforcing municipal bye-laws is necessary, his initial approach will prioritise education and dialogue. He added that legal action would only be taken after repeated efforts to educate the public have failed.
Healthcare and Decongestion
Emphasising that “health is wealth,” the MCE commended recent support from organisations such as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which donated resources to local health facilities. He also revealed plans to distribute additional waste bins across the municipality to curb disease outbreaks.
Regarding the planned decongestion exercise, Mr Boakye assured residents that the process would be carried out humanely, with adequate notice given to affected individuals to make necessary arrangements.
Call to Action
In his closing remarks, Mr Owusu Boakye urged residents to support the Assembly by obeying laws and collaborating with authorities. He reaffirmed his commitment to completing ongoing projects, especially road construction, and called on the public to join hands in building a clean, modern, and prosperous Koforidua.
The media tour is being hailed as a proactive step towards fostering transparency and mobilising community support for the municipality’s development agenda.
