The initiative, spearheaded by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Ernest Owusu Ntim, forms part of the Assembly’s broader vision to ensure orderly development, protect the environment, and position Atiwa East among the top-performing districts in the Eastern Region.
To officially commence the initiative, a strategic stakeholder meeting was held on Wednesday, 6th May 2025, at the District Assembly Hall. The engagement brought together members of the newly established task force, local authorities, security agencies, and other key stakeholders to deliberate on effective measures aimed at addressing unauthorized structures, environmental degradation, illegal mining activities, and unlawful developmental practices within the district.
Addressing participants at the meeting, the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Paul Acquah, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to achieving government targets for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs). He emphasized the need for collaboration among stakeholders and strict enforcement of regulations to ensure sustainable development and improved service delivery.
According to him, the formation of the task force marks a significant step towards promoting discipline in physical development, safeguarding the environment, and improving internally generated revenue for the Assembly.
The task force is made up of representatives from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Blue Water Guards, staff of the Assembly, and selected residents within the district. The multi-sectoral composition is expected to ensure effective coordination, monitoring, and enforcement of environmental and developmental regulations.
The Information Services Department, which witnessed the engagement, reaffirmed its commitment to serving as the “eyes and ears” of government at the grassroots level by documenting proceedings and continuously informing the public about government policies, developmental projects, and key initiatives within the district.
