The items presented included wheelbarrows, cutlasses, rakes, Wellington boots, brooms, hand gloves, pick axes, nose masks, and other essential tools to support effective communal labour and clean-up exercises within the various communities.
Speaking during a brief presentation ceremony, the District Chief Executive for the Akrofuom District Assembly, Hon. Gariba Mustapha Mohammed, emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to promoting good sanitation practices and maintaining a clean and healthy environment throughout the district.
He urged Assembly Members to ensure the proper use and maintenance of the items in their respective electoral areas, stressing that the equipment was procured specifically to support sanitation activities and improve the efficiency of communal labour exercises.
According to the DCE, the Assembly is fully aware of the difficulties Assembly Members often face during clean-up exercises due to the lack of adequate tools and logistics. He expressed optimism that the provision of the equipment would greatly ease those challenges, increase participation, and make sanitation activities more effective and organized.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the District Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Attukwei Clottey, reiterated that the items are meant strictly for sanitation-related activities and should not be diverted for construction or other non-sanitation purposes.
The Assembly Members, who expressed excitement and appreciation for the support, assured the District Assembly that the items would be used responsibly and efficiently to improve sanitation standards in their various communities.
The initiative forms part of the Assembly’s broader efforts to promote environmental cleanliness, prevent sanitation-related diseases, and encourage active community participation in keeping the district clean and safe.
