A visit to the site revealed active sand-winning involving tipper trucks and heavy machinery, which had already caused visible damage to nearby infrastructure, including electricity poles.

Mr. Osae Offei reiterated that sand-winning without authorization from the Municipal Assembly is unlawful and cautioned that such activities pose serious threats to the environment and the livelihoods of residents.

He further noted that prior engagements had already been held with operators, making compliance with Assembly bye-laws mandatory.

With support from the Police, seven individuals were arrested, while equipment used for the illegal operations was confiscated for further investigations.

The Assembly is therefore urging all residents, contractors, and operators to obtain the necessary permits and strictly adhere to laid-down regulations.
