The initiative, led by Mayekoo in partnership with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, seeks to clear accumulated waste from the Chorkor beachfront, enhance sanitary conditions, and support broader efforts to reclaim and maintain coastal areas.

During the inspection, the Mayor noted that the exercise aligns with his administration’s focus on practical sanitation measures and environmental management. He emphasized that restoring Chorkor beach is not only critical for public health but also forms part of a long-term strategy to unlock the economic potential of Accra’s coastline.

He added that cleaner, well-managed beaches could attract tourism-related investments, including hotel developments, while creating employment opportunities for young people and boosting the local economy.

Despite competing demands on his office, the Mayor stressed that beach sanitation remains a top priority. He assured stakeholders of the Assembly’s readiness to support ongoing and future cleanup efforts across the city.

Mr. Allotey also pledged the Assembly’s full backing to Mayekoo, expressing confidence that their intervention would yield visible and lasting improvements along the coastline.
