Massive clean-up in Accra, Kumasi

The Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources in collaboration with its allied partners Members of the Environmental Service Providers Association led by Zoomlion Ghana Limited, and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies started a three-day massive clean-up exercise in Accra and Kumasi.

The exercise which started from April 3, and will end on April 5, 2020 is to utilize the lockdown period to ensure effective cleaning and cleansing of the cities in support of the fight against the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The scope of the exercise would include;
• Desilting of gutters;
• Collection and disposal of refuse from homes, public places, markets, and lorry parks
• Emptying of street litter bins among other equally important exercises.

A statement from the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources also urged all other MMDAs across the country to ensure continuous cleaning of their respective jurisdictions.

It also called on all Environmental Service Providers to ensure regular collection and disposal of waste from homes within their concessional areas.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has encouraged residents to keep their homes and immediate surroundings clean at all times and refrain from indiscriminate littering and disposal of refuse.
