Tano S Municipal Assembly Observes National sanitation Day

The event, which aimed to promote health and hygiene standards in the Municipality, brought together various stakeholders, including the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Emmanuel kwame Frinpong, the Coordinating Director, Mr. Abdul Rahman Salam, Security Agencies, Traditional leader, members of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Bechem, local organizations and a cross-section of the general public.
The clean-up exercise took place along the principal streets, market, and lorry station in Bechem, with participants sweeping, collecting trash, and disinfecting public areas.
Addressing the gathering, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, expressed gratitude to all, especially the Presbyterian Church in Bechem and the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), for their collaborative effort in making the event a success.
He emphasized that there had been a major improvement in sanitation issues in Bechem, adding that the clean-up exercise should be an ongoing commitment rather than a one-day event. He advised that regular clean-up exercises would help eradicate filthy conditions and improve health standards in Bechem.
Hon. Frimpong explained that the Tano South Municipal Assembly operates under national legislation alongside specific by-laws, indicating that when these by-laws are gazette, individuals who neglect the sanitary responsibilities or refuse to participate in maintaining a clean environment will faces legal consequences.
Bring his speech to an end, he noted his satisfaction with the day's progress and the level of cooperation seen across the municipality.
The Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Mr. James Kwesi Oware, in a brief address, criticized the habit of residence waiting for high-profile figures such as the Municipal Chief Executive, Members of Parliament, or environmental officers, to visit before cleaning their environments.
He argued that sanitation should be viewed as a continuous, daily process rather than something reserved exclusively for designated “Sanitation Days” He called on Assembly Members to take the lead in their various jurisdictions to ensure that residents maintain their areas consistently.
Mr. Oware further commended the participation of the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies, noting that their involvement set a strong example for the rest of the community to follow.
Reverend Clement Afrefah, the District Minister for Bechem Presbyterian Church, who played a major role with his church members in ensuring the success of the event, explained that the church partnered with the Assembly because they believe the health and hygiene of the people are paramount to their spiritual and social mission.
Reverend Afrefah emphasized that the church’s involvement is a sign of its commitment to Bechem’s welfare, stating that they will continue to support such initiatives to prevent the spread of disease and improve the overall quality of life in the Municipality.
He expressed deep gratitude to the various local associations, traditional leaders, and the security services for joining the church in this massive clean-up exercise.
The exercise ended successfully with a renewed commitment from stakeholders and residents to maintain cleanliness and improve sanitation in the municipality.
