Statistics from the district indicate that 81.3 percent of persons with disabilities have never attended school, highlighting deep-rooted barriers to inclusive education. Only 4.1 percent have attained pre-school education, while 9.6 percent have completed basic school.

The situation is even more concerning among persons with sight disabilities, where a staggering 87.9 percent have never attended school, and only 7 percent have attained basic education. For individuals with speech disabilities, access to higher levels of education remains extremely limited, with just 1.5 percent progressing to secondary education.

The figures underscore a troubling reality: illiteracy among the disabled population in the district remains very high, limiting opportunities for employment, economic independence, and full participation in community life.

Education advocates stress the urgent need for inclusive policies, improved special education infrastructure, trained special needs teachers, assistive learning materials, and stronger community sensitisation to eliminate stigma and discrimination.

Stakeholders are calling for targeted interventions to ensure that children and adults with disabilities are not left behind in the district’s development agenda.

As Mamprugu-Moagduri pursues inclusive growth, addressing educational inequality for persons with disabilities remains not just a social responsibility, but a critical step toward sustainable development and social justice.
