The visit also sought to encourage health personnel for their continued dedication to the wellbeing of residents in the district.
The DCE was accompanied by the District Director of Health Services, Mr. Mutarla Mohammed, together with his technical team, as well as the District Information Officer, Mr. Elvis Offei-Bekoe.
The facilities visited included St. Dominic’s Catholic Hospital in Akwatia, the GCD Government Hospital in Akwatia, and the Takrowase Polyclinic.
At each facility, management briefed the delegation on their operations, including average outpatient and inpatient attendance. The facilities reported steady—and in some cases increasing—patient attendance, attributed largely to population growth, referrals from surrounding communities, and growing public confidence in the quality of healthcare services provided. These trends underscored the critical role the facilities play in healthcare delivery within the district and neighboring areas..jpg)
Management also highlighted key achievements recorded over the years, including improvements in service delivery, expansion of selected departments, successful implementation of public health programmes, enhanced maternal and child health outcomes, and the commitment of staff to maintaining quality care despite resource constraints. Some facilities further cited strengthened community outreach initiatives and improved collaboration with the District Health Directorate as notable milestones.
However, management also drew attention to major challenges confronting their operations. Chief among these were inadequate infrastructure, obsolete or insufficient medical equipment, limited staff accommodation, and understaffing in critical service areas. Additional challenges included delays in the supply of essential medical consumables, increasing pressure on existing facilities due to high patient turnout, and the need for sustained support to maintain and upgrade infrastructure.
In his remarks, Mr. Umar Ahmed Tutu commended the health workers for their professionalism, resilience, and selfless service to the people of the Denkyembour District. He assured management and staff that the issues raised had been duly noted and would guide the Assembly’s planning, advocacy, and engagement with relevant stakeholders. He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to working closely with the District Health Directorate to support initiatives aimed at improving healthcare delivery across the district.
The visit provided an important platform for direct interaction between the District Assembly and health institutions, strengthening collaboration, boosting staff morale, and giving the DCE first-hand insight into the performance, achievements, and challenges of key health facilities.
