During the visit on Tuesday morning, the Mayor inspected sections of the clinic, including the maternity ward, where he commended nurses and midwives for their service to the nation and assured them of the Assembly's support to strengthen healthcare delivery and help save lives.

He indicated that measures would be pursued to address expansion at the clinic, and was hopefully the issue would be resolved by the end of the year.

The Mayor was also taken through the Antenatal Services Unit, where he was briefed on space constraints and the operational pressures facing frontline staff, particularly in maternal care.

Nurses at the maternity ward raised concerns about the limited space available for care, and prioritised the completion and operationalisation of the theatre to reduce referrals.

The Administrator of the clinic, Mr. Yeboah Asiama Botchway, who led the Mayor on a tour, said one of the clinic’s major challenges and priorities for 2026 was to operationalise its theatre, noting that while the room had been set up, the facility lacked key equipment, with an anaesthesia machine identified as the most critical immediate need.

Mr. Botchway explained that the absence of a functional theatre compelled the polyclinic to refer many cases to tertiary facilities, even when the clinic had the capacity to manage them, adding that referrals became especially difficult when cases were critical and time-sensitive.

He also highlighted the limited space at the antenatal department and appealed for support to expand the unit to better accommodate pregnant women and provide improved care through to delivery.

Touching on maternal outcomes, the Administrator said the clinic recorded no maternal mortality in 2025, and expressed confidence that operationalising the theatre would further strengthen the facility’s ability to manage complicated cases and sustain positive outcomes.
