Alban Bagbin is the speaker for the 8th parliament

Mr. Alban Sumana Bagbin, a former National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Nadowli Kaleo, has been elected Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

Mr. Bagbin beat Prof Mike Oquaye, the Speaker of the 7th parliament, who was again presented by the New Patriotic Party in a closely contested election in parliament today, January 7, 2021.

He has duly been sworn in by the Chief Justice Anin Yeboah.

Mr. Alban Bagbin served as the second deputy speaker in the 7th parliament which expired on mid-night of January 6, 2021.

He served as a legislature for the people of Nadowli Kaleo in the Upper West Region from the 1st to the 7th parliaments of the 4th republic of Ghana.

He became the Majority Leader of parliament in 2009.

He also held a number of ministerial positions including Health Minister in the Mills administration in 2008, Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing by President Atta Mills.
