The facility, commissioned on Thursday, November 5, 2026, is expected to provide a designated stopping point for commercial drivers and improve traffic management along the main road passing through Akatsi township.
The main road, which runs through the town, was originally designed without a designated bus stop at the central business area, compelling drivers to use unauthorised locations to pick up and drop off passengers, as well as load and offload goods.
The situation had reportedly resulted in frequent disagreements between drivers and the police, as well as city authorities, over parking and traffic regulations.
To address the challenge, the Assembly initiated the construction of the bus stop, with work commencing about two months ago.
Addressing the gathering, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Daniel Dagba, urged drivers to make proper use of the facility and ensure its maintenance to serve its intended purpose.
He also called on the various driver unions to unite and work together to promote discipline and effective management of transport activities in the municipality.
Hon. Dagba further urged the police to strictly enforce road traffic regulations and take appropriate action against drivers who violated the rules.
The Municipal Police Commander, in his remarks, assured the public, particularly commercial drivers, of the strict enforcement of the Road Traffic Regulation, 2026 (L.I. 2319).
He encouraged drivers and other road users to familiarise themselves with the regulation, adding that the police would intensify public education to improve awareness and compliance.
Togbui Aho IV, who expressed excitement over the commissioning, described the development as another significant milestone for Akatsi.
He observed that the commissioning followed closely after the inauguration of the Avenor Community Bank PLC, noting that the two developments within a short period demonstrated the pace of infrastructure and institutional development in the area.
He appealed to drivers to take responsibility for maintaining the new facility and cautioned them against unnecessary rivalry, urging the various unions to work in unity for the benefit of the municipality.
The ceremony was attended by traditional authorities, Assembly Members, police personnel, Assembly staff, representatives of driver unions, the media and other stakeholders.
