The initiative was led by the Member of Parliament for Tano South, Charles Asiedu, together with the Municipal Chief Executive, Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, in fulfillment of a long-standing promise made during a General Assembly meeting to address safety concerns raised by residents.

In a brief but impressive address, the Municipal Chief Executive, Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, commended Charles Asiedu for honoring his promise and driving development within the municipality. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with the government’s 24-hour economy policy, which seeks to boost economic activities at night while enhancing security and deterring criminal activities.

Hon. Frimpong urged Assembly Members to take responsibility for the streetlights, noting that they are now the main point of contact for lighting-related issues within their communities. He added that while the Assembly is taking steps to establish a task force to oversee the installation of the streetlights, community members should also support the installation process.

In his closing remarks, Hon. Frimpong thanked the Member of Parliament for his dedication and encouraged him to initiate more development projects within the municipality.

Delivering the keynote address, Charles Asiedu acknowledged the concerns of residents, noting that many had expressed frustration over delays in access to electricity and felt neglected. He reassured the gathering that the delay was not due to neglect but was part of a strategic plan to ensure stability and equitable distribution of resources.

Hon. Asiedu disclosed that a total of 410 streetlight bulbs were being distributed, with each Assembly Member receiving 10 bulbs. He further explained that although the quantity may not be sufficient, efforts are underway to expand coverage across the municipality.

He highlighted that electoral areas that previously lacked electricity are now being connected to the national grid, adding that significant progress has been made in communities such as Bechem, Techimantia, and Derma, where electricity expansion projects are nearing completion.

Hon. Asiedu emphasized that the initiative is a collaborative effort and expressed appreciation to Assembly Members for their patience and grassroots coordination. He urged residents to remain hopeful, stating that the “darkness” experienced in many communities would soon be a thing of the past, as the government remains committed to illuminating every part of the municipality to support local businesses and improve living conditions.

He further assured residents that more social intervention and infrastructure projects are in the pipeline, reiterating his commitment to serving the people and ensuring that the municipality receives its fair share of national development. He also called for continued unity and support from traditional leaders and the youth to ensure the successful completion of all ongoing projects.

The Krotihene of Techimantia, Nana Ampong Kromantang III, expressed gratitude to Hon. Asiedu and the Municipal Chief Executive for addressing the electricity challenges in Tano South. He reminded leaders that their primary responsibility is to serve the people and deliver development projects that sustain public trust.

Nana Ampong Kromantang III further cautioned against the misappropriation of project materials, stressing that the collective growth of Tano South depends on the honesty and dedication of its leaders. He emphasized the need for regular reporting and accountability, noting that transparent management of resources would pave the way for future development projects.

Mr. Appiah Joe, the Assembly Member for the Atekyem Electoral Area, also expressed appreciation to Hon. Asiedu and Hon. Frimpong for their support in improving local infrastructure.

He noted that inadequate lighting has long remained a challenge affecting the safety and security of residents, adding that the distributed materials would significantly improve visibility in the interior sections of various communities and help reduce security concerns.

While expressing gratitude, Mr. Appiah further pointed out that the Atekyem area is rapidly expanding, creating an increasing demand for additional resources. He appealed for more support in the future to ensure that all parts of the community are adequately served and called for continued collaboration between the Assembly and municipal leadership.
