The Assembly received its copy of the MoU on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, from the Commander of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) Patrick Thomas Seidu, on behalf of the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.). The agreement, which was formally signed on 30 June 2026, paves the way for the commencement of one of the municipality's flagship economic development projects.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Philibert Fummey Amenorpe, together with the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Jasper Adenyo, officially received the document on behalf of the Assembly.
The planned 24-Hour Economy Market is expected to become a major commercial hub that will support trade, creates employment
opportunities, and stimulates economic growth within the municipality. The market will provide a modern trading environment for farmers, traders, artisans, and entrepreneurs, while contributing to increased business activity and local revenue generation.
Speaking on the significance of the agreement, Assembly officials described the partnership between the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly and the Ghana Prisons Service as a landmark collaboration that demonstrates a shared commitment to economic transformation, sustainable development, and job creation.
The Assembly noted that the project aligns with the government's 24-Hour Economy agenda, which seeks to expand economic opportunities through increased productivity and investment in critical infrastructure.
The successful acquisition of the land marks the beginning of a transformative initiative expected to improve socio-economic livelihoods, attract investment, and position Nsawam Adoagyiri as a strategic commercial centre within the Eastern Region.
The Assembly expressed its appreciation to the Ghana Prisons Service for its cooperation and support throughout the process and expressed optimism that construction of the market will commence promptly to ensure the timely completion of the project for the benefit of residents and businesses.
