Ningo-Prampram Assembly Members Undergo Capacity Building to Strengthen Local Governance

The Ningo-Prampram District Assembly has organized a two-day capacity-building workshop for all 32 Assembly Members to strengthen their knowledge and skills for effective local governance and improved service delivery.

The workshop, held on Thursday and Friday, brought together all 32 Assembly Members, the District Chief Executive (DCE), the District Coordinating Director, and key management staff from the Human Resource and Information Services Departments.

Facilitating the first day's session, Mr. Richard Abankwa Agyepong took participants through key topics, including the responsibilities of Assembly Members, corporate governance, oversight functions at the district level, and the enactment and enforcement of by-laws.

He highlighted essential principles for effective oversight, such as integrity, ethical conduct, transparency, accountability, risk management, and stakeholder engagement. Mr. Agyepong reminded participants that their primary responsibility is to serve the interests of the district above personal interests and urged them to deepen their understanding of local governance laws to effectively discharge their duties.

He also encouraged Assembly Members to deliberately build their communication and public speaking skills to enhance their ability to engage stakeholders, lobby for development initiatives, and effectively represent their electoral areas.

On the second day, facilitator Mr. Jonathan Azasoo focused on leadership and community mobilization. He discussed the functions of the District Assembly and emphasized the importance of community engagement through the pillars of awareness, participation, ownership, and sustainability.

Mr. Azasoo also examined various leadership styles and approaches, providing practical guidance on how Assembly Members can effectively mobilize communities and foster grassroots participation in local development.

The workshop provided participants with a platform to deepen their understanding of local governance, corporate oversight, leadership, and community engagement. Through interactive discussions and practical sessions, Assembly Members were equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to enhance their performance and contribute more effectively to the development of the Ningo-Prampram District.
