The training saw more than 50 women being equipped with practical knowledge in liquid soap and wig cap making.
These skills, while seemingly simple, hold the potential to transforming lives by providing sustainable income-generating opportunities within the community.
Ms Yvonne Donkor, TOUGHA President, underscored the union’s commitment to ensuring lasting impact through community-focused tourism.
She said the initiative was not just about tourism but also to empower the people in the communities, especially women, to take charge of their own economic futures.
“By equipping them with these skills, we are planting seeds of self-reliance that can grow into thriving micro-enterprises. Our hope is that these women will become multipliers of knowledge, sharing what they have learned with others in their community,” Ms Donkor said.
She noted that the initiative also reflected TOUGHA’s broader corporate social responsibility agenda, to ensure that tourism left behind more than just footprints.
“Tourism must leave behind empowerment, dignity and opportunity.” Nana Kwadwo Wuo II, the Chief of Bui, on behalf of the community, expressed appreciation to the association for the initiative, saying it was timely and impactful.
He commended TOUGHA for using their fun trip to promote the ecotourism potential of Bui and called for strategic investments in hospitality infrastructure to support growingtourism interest in the area.
“There are real opportunities here. We have beautiful landscapes and cultural heritage. What we need now are hotels and facilities to welcome tourists,” he said.
“I and my elders are ready to support any credible investor, especially when it comes to securing land for such projects.”
TOUGHA’s four-day “Bono Expedition” aims to spotlight the ecotourism potential of the Bono and Bono East regions and bring attention to their hidden tourism gems.
This is done alongside fostering community partnerships that empower locals and promote inclusive development.
