The operation, conducted on October 8, 2025, followed a tip off received through the Anti Galamsey Rapid Response Line. The MCE, together with the Municipal Police Commander, moved swiftly to the site to halt the illegal mining activities.
Upon arrival, the illegal miners fled the area, abandoning mining equipment and a makeshift wooden structure. The security team seized a washing plant and an excavator, while the wooden shelter used by the miners was destroyed.
Mr Ayeh indicated that some of the illegal mining operators were Chinese nationals working with Ghanaian collaborators. He said arrangements were being made to remove the excavator from the site.
The MCE reaffirmed the Assembly's zero tolerance approach to illegal mining, stressing that the municipality would continue working with security agencies to protect its lands and water bodies. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspected illegal mining activities to the appropriate authorities to enable prompt action.
Mr Ayeh warned individuals involved in galamsey in the municipality to desist from the practice, saying the Assembly would not relent in its efforts to safeguard the environment for present and future generations.
