This was disclosed by the municipal chief executive Hon. Masud Musah Ayarba Thomas at the third ordinary meeting of the assembly for the year in Atebubu.

“Immediately the contract of Zoomlion was abrogated, management recruited 24 sweepers to continue to sweep some selected public spaces in Atebubu. We are almost done with the process of recruiting additional 50 sweepers and sanitary workers to bring the number to 74” the MCE said.

He indicated that the assembly has procured 3 tricycles to be deployed in both Atebubu and Amantin to aid door to door refuse collection to improve sanitation adding that 2 dilapidated refuse containers have been replaced with communal skip containers in some densely populated residential areas.

Hon. Masud Thomas said plans are advanced to procure 100 dustbins and 5 skip containers together with other logistics for both daily cleaning and the monthly National Sanitation Day exercises.

“My hope is that this effort will enhance refuse collection, door to door waste transport, eliminate indiscriminate dumping, prevent cholera and malaria outbreaks as well as promote community ownership of environmental cleanliness” the MCE concluded.
