The equipment was received on October 15, 2026, following a request submitted to the Ministry of Energy through the Ministry of Roads and Highways to improve street lighting and address security concerns in Ho.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Adom said the equipment would support the installation of streetlights along major roads and principal streets to make movement safer for motorists, pedestrians and residents at night.
He said the planned installations would cover key routes, including the dual carriage road from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to Sokode Gborgame, the Powerhouse–Youth Centre stretch, and the Barracks New Town–Trafalgar Road, among other major streets.
The intervention is expected to improve visibility, reduce risks associated with poorly lit roads and enhance security in communities across the municipality.
It also forms part of efforts to advance Ho's vision of becoming a cleaner, safer and more vibrant “Oxygen City,” while improving the urban environment for residents and visitors.
However, the delivery has raised concerns about the need for transparency and accountability in the distribution and use of the equipment.
Madam Selase Elegbor, a resident of Kokompe, a suburb of Ho, welcomed the initiative but urged the Assembly to ensure that the streetlights were installed strictly for their intended public purpose.
“The MCE should make sure that none of the lights ends up in anybody’s private home. If any are found in a private home, the person responsible should be prosecuted,” she said, emphasising the need to protect public resources from misuse.
The Ho Municipal Assembly is expected to collaborate with the relevant ministries and other stakeholders to facilitate the installation and maintenance of the streetlights.
