The installation ceremony, held over the weekend, was attended by chiefs from the Denkyira Traditional Council, including Nana Opong Kyekyeku, Chief of Denkyira Tutuampa, and Nana Ampofi II, Chief of Denkyira Faman. The event was marked by drumming, dancing, and celebrations by the Asona clan of Diaso and surrounding areas.
The Gyaase Hene is responsible for managing and protecting the chief’s stool properties, regalia, and palace grounds, as well as overseeing daily customary activities and administrative duties on behalf of the paramount or town chief.

Speaking after his swearing-in, Nana Kwaku Benim called on all chiefs and traditional authorities to support efforts by the Denkyira and Diaso traditional councils to protect the environment, particularly River Dia and other water bodies. He emphasized that it is the duty of the present generation to uphold and defend the ancient tradition of keeping the environment clean and healthy for posterity.
“I promise this day to keep Diaso’s environment safe and clean. We should reflect on the current sorry state of River Dia, the pride of Diaso and Upper Denkyira,” he stated, bemoaning the poor condition of the river and other water bodies in the area.
The Chief of Diaso Traditional Council, Odeneho Agya-Ameyaw, welcomed the new Gyaase Hene and thanked the Asona clan and the Denkyira Traditional Council for the opportunity. He commended Nana Benim for his commitment to peace and environmental protection.
“I knew what my Gyaase can do; that is why I accepted him and brought him into my chamber to support me in developing Diaso and its surrounding areas,” Nana Agya-Ameyaw said.
Other chiefs from the Denkyira Traditional Council advised the new Gyaase Hene and the Chief of Diaso, noting that community development should not be left solely to the government. They urged traditional authorities to contribute their own efforts to improve their communities.
The installation ends a 70-year period during which the Denkyira Diaso Gyaase stool remained unoccupied, a situation the traditional council said had hampered proper management of the traditional area.
