The Divisional Chief of Zabrama and Kyidomhene of the Abease Traditional Area, Nana Kokwa Boffour II, has warned that the Paramount Chief of Abease Traditional Council, Obrempong Kru Takyi II, should be blamed if any blood is shed in the traditional area.
He made the remark amid rising tensions over land designated for the government’s 24-hour Economy Market, following a demonstration by the youth of Zabrama against the Paramount Chief.
Nana Kokwa Boffour II appealed to the security agencies, especially the Bono East Regional Security Council, to intervene to protect the people of Zabrama and surrounding communities.
He said he and the people of Zabrama, as custodians of culture, would serve as a bridge between the government and development partners to mobilise resources for economic development and youth empowerment.
The Kyidomhene urged residents, especially the youth, to use dialogue and legal channels rather than violence to resolve the land dispute.
He called on the National Security, the Bono East Regional Security Council, the Pru West District Security Council and the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs to invite the Paramount Chief, Obrempong Kru Takyi II, before the law court.
Nana Kokwa Boffour II alleged that the Paramount Chief had been intimidating residents of Abease, Zabrama and Dama-Nkwanta with vigilantes and guards from Ivory Coast after the youth tried to stop him from interfering with government property.
He said the land in question is the 24-hour Economy Market land, which the Divisional Chief and the Odikro of Zabrama had already given to the government for the project.

The Kyidomhene also appealed to the Bono East Regional Minister, the Pru West District Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Agyapong, and other state officials to regularly engage the Paramount Chief to stop the arbitrary sale of land, especially the 24-hour Economy Market land, and to address issues involving Fulani herdsmen and cattle.
He stressed that the people of Zabrama and Abease are ready to protect public property and infrastructure.
“We shall ensure that no one takes over the 24-hour Economy Market land which the chief and the people of Zabrama have given to the Ghana government,” Nana Kokwa Boffour II said.
On his part, the Chairman of the Youth for Abease, Zabrama and surrounding areas, Kyereme Charles, expressed deep worry over the situation.
He alleged that the Paramount Chief had bought over police officers in the area with money and had brought guards from Ivory Coast to intimidate residents.
Kyereme Charles appealed to President John Dramani Mahama, the National Security Council, the Bono East Regional Security Council, the Pru West District Security Council and the DCE, Hon. Samuel Agyapong, to provide maximum security for the people of Zabrama, Komfokrom, Abease, Kamampa, Krobo, Cherembo, Dama-Nkwanta and surrounding areas.
He said the communities need peace and unity to develop, adding that residents will not sit by for the Paramount Chief to destroy the happiness and development in the area, especially the proposed 24-hour Economy Market land.
