He said the government’s policy of deploying doctors to underserved areas should not be misconstrued as a form of punishment but rather as a deliberate effort to ensure equitable distribution of the health workforce nationwide.

Addressing the Parliamentary Press Corps at Parliament House in Accra on Tuesday, Mr Akandoh appealed to chiefs, members of Parliament, and regional and district health directorates to support the doctors and facilitate their stay in the districts.

The Minister said since the postings were announced last Friday, November 28, 2025, some doctors had already reported to their assigned stations.

He explained that the recruits had been given one week to report, after which a validation exercise would be conducted.

He stressed that there were no plans to alter the postings.

The distribution of postings is as follows:  Ahafo (21), Ashanti (33), Bono (29), Bono East (27), Central (34), and Eastern (27).

The rest are Greater Accra (20), Northern (32), North East (19), Oti (21) Savannah ( 19), Volta (37 ) Upper East (35) Upper West (32) and Western North( 31).

Mr Akandoh reiterated that the success of the policy depended on the collective effort of stakeholders to make rural postings attractive and sustainable, thereby strengthening healthcare delivery across the country.
