The beneficiary schools include Wioso D/A JHS and Primary, Barniekrom D/A JHS and Primary, Kunsu D/A JHS and Primary, and Afresini D/A JHS and Primary. In addition to the modern sanitation facilities, the schools received toilet rolls, tissue paper, and liquid soap to encourage proper hygiene practices among pupils and staff.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Abubakar Sedik revealed that poor sanitation infrastructure in schools was among the critical challenges he identified after assuming office, necessitating urgent intervention to protect the health, dignity, and well-being of both pupils and teachers.
He explained that the projects were funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and form part of the Assembly's broader strategy to strengthen educational infrastructure and improve public health outcomes in underserved communities.
"Every child deserves access to safe, hygienic, and dignified sanitation facilities. We remain committed to extending these interventions to more schools across the district," the DCE emphasized.
Hon. Sedik further highlighted the inclusive nature of the facilities, noting that they have been designed with disability-friendly features to ensure that students with special needs can access and use them comfortably, reinforcing the Assembly's commitment to inclusive education.
The DCE called on teachers, parents, Assembly Members, and students to take collective responsibility for maintaining the facilities, stressing that proper upkeep and responsible use are essential to ensuring their long-term sustainability.
Also addressing the gathering, the District Director of Education, Mr. Justin Kwesi Gbotor, announced plans to establish management committees in each beneficiary school to oversee maintenance and ensure the facilities remain in good condition.
He urged students to adopt good sanitation and hygiene practices, emphasizing that a clean school environment contributes significantly to improved health outcomes and academic performance.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by the Presiding Member, District Coordinating Director, District Director of Education, management staff of the District Assembly, and officials from the District Education Directorate, underscoring the district's collective commitment to improving sanitation and educational outcomes.
The intervention marks another important milestone in the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly's efforts to promote quality education, public health, and inclusive development.
