Under the initiative, dubbed “Educating Every Child, Strengthening Every Community,” NALAG is expected to distribute more than 320,000 branded exercise books to schoolchildren across Ghana. The exercise books will be supplied to beneficiary schools through various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in all regions of the country.

Speaking at the launch held at Accra Metropolitan Assembly Conference room, wednesday, the President of NALAG, Alfred Asiedu Adjei said the intervention is aimed at ensuring that no child is deprived of education due to a lack of basic learning materials.

According to him, the exercise book distribution forms part of broader efforts to support quality education, empower local communities, and contribute to Ghana’s national development agenda. He said the exercise book distribution programme was not merely about providing learning materials but about creating opportunities, restoring hope, and investing in Ghana’s future.

"Today, we are not simply unveiling exercise books. We are unveiling opportunity. We are restoring hope. We are investing in the future of Ghana", he noted.

The NALAG President also expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana for its continued collaboration in strengthening decentralization and local governance.

On her part, the Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, commended the Association for its innovative initiative and urged its leadership to ensure that the project evolves beyond a one-time event into a sustainable programme that extends its impact across the Association and beyond its borders.

She reaffirmed the government's support for the initiative and encouraged beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunities it offers to develop their skills, broaden their prospects, and improve their chances of achieving success in life.

Motorbike for Assembly Members

Meanwhile, the Association also commended President John Dramani Mahama for fulfilling his commitment to the payment of monthly allowances to Assembly Members, a move NALAG described as recognition of their vital role in grassroots governance and participatory democracy.

However, the Association raised concerns about challenges facing Assembly Members, many of whom are currently serving in the third year of their constitutional tenure. Leadership of NALAG says its members continue to cover large electoral areas, often travelling long distances on poor road networks at significant personal expense.

They stressed that the provision of motorbikes for Assembly Members has become a necessity rather than a luxury, arguing that improved mobility is critical to effective grassroots governance and service delivery.
