Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira Roads Deteriorate Despite Key Highway Access

Road infrastructure in the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District is facing serious challenges as a large portion of its feeder road network continues to deteriorate, affecting transportation and economic activities.

The district is dominated by feeder roads, with a total of 210.1 kilometres, out of which only 35.7 kilometres are bitumen surfaced. Key stretches including the Hemang–Baakondidi (7.8 km), Jukwa township (3.5 km), Hemang–Bukruso (9.4 km), and Gyankobo–Abaka Nkwanta (2.0 km) roads have all suffered significant degradation, making them increasingly difficult to use.

Residents say the poor condition of these roads is hampering movement, especially for farmers and traders who rely heavily on them to transport goods to markets.

Despite these challenges, the district benefits from a 41-kilometre all-year motorable highway linking Jukwa to Twifo Hemang, which forms part of the Cape Coast–Twifo Praso highway. This major route continues to serve as a vital corridor for transport and connectivity.

However, stakeholders argue that without urgent rehabilitation of the feeder roads, the full benefits of the highway cannot be realized.

Calls are growing for immediate intervention to upgrade and maintain the feeder road network to improve accessibility, boost trade, and support overall development in the district.
