The three-day exercise, conducted focused on clearing major drains of accumulated silt, sand, refuse and other debris that had obstructed the free flow of stormwater.

Three excavators were deployed for the exercise as part of the Assembly’s proactive measures to restore the efficiency of the drainage network and reduce the risk of flooding.

The exercise was supervised by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alfredos Nii Anyetei, and the Member of Parliament for the La Dade-Kotopon Constituency and Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah. Technical officers from the Works Department and the Urban Roads Department also monitored the operations to ensure that the dredging was carried out effectively and in line with required engineering standards.

The intervention is expected to improve environmental sanitation, prevent the obstruction of waterways, and protect lives, property and public infrastructure from the devastating effects of flooding. It also forms part of LaDMA’s broader efforts to build a cleaner, healthier and more resilient municipality.

The Assembly has therefore urged residents to support its efforts by refraining from dumping refuse into drains and participating actively in community sanitation activities.
