She said the Assembly was collaborating with relevant stakeholders to enact and strictly enforce sanitation by-laws in communities across the municipality, warning that persons found guilty of sanitation offences would face appropriate punishment.
Ms Gyamfi gave the warning in an interview with the media on the sidelines of a clean-up exercise organised by the Wenchi Municipal Assembly in Wenchi.
She said the exercise was aimed at improving environmental sanitation, mitigating the risk of flooding and preventing the spread of communicable and infectious diseases.
The MCE urged residents to take personal responsibility for maintaining clean surroundings and to adopt proper waste disposal practices to help protect public health and the environment.
Mr Marvin Ankomah Boateng, the Wenchi Municipal Environmental Health Analyst, commended residents for the impressive turnout and participation in the exercise.
He assured the public of the Assembly’s readiness to collaborate with stakeholders to improve sanitation and waste management across the municipality.
Mr Ankomah Boateng advised community members to maintain the cleanliness achieved through the exercise by properly disposing of refuse and avoiding practices that could block drains and create unhealthy conditions.
During the exercise, participants desilted choked gutters, cleared weeds and refuse heaps, and collected plastic waste from various parts of the Wenchi township, including markets and lorry stations.
The exercise brought together chiefs and queen mothers, Assembly officials, security personnel, representatives of faith-based organisations, students, traders and artisans, among others.
The Assembly urged residents to sustain the gains made through the exercise and work collectively towards a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally friendly Wenchi.
