The event, held at the Municipal Assembly Conference Hall, was attended by dignitaries including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong; the Municipal Health Director, Dr. Joel Duah Afi; and the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Abdul Rahman Salam.

In his welcome address, the Municipal Health Director, Dr. Joel Duah Afi, commended the Hon. Member of Parliament and the Municipal Chief Executive for their continuous support and acknowledged the dedication and commitment of health workers across the municipality.

Presenting the Directorate's performance for the year under review, Dr. Duah Afi highlighted key achievements, including an Antenatal Care (ANC) coverage rate of 77.8 per cent, 67.5 per cent skilled delivery coverage, 98.8 per cent postnatal care coverage, and zero maternal mortality. Outpatient Department (OPD) attendance increased to 144,803, while tuberculosis (TB) case detection rose to 77 cases out of a target of 89. He further noted that 100 per cent of HIV-positive pregnant women received Antiretroviral (ARV) treatment.

Despite these achievements, Dr. Duah Afi identified several challenges affecting the Directorate's performance, including financial constraints, logistics shortages, infrastructure deficits, and gaps in human resources.

Looking ahead to 2026, he outlined plans to increase ANC coverage to 80 per cent, improve supervised delivery to 70 per cent, and reduce stillbirth rates to 5 per cent. He stated that the Directorate would focus on strengthening primary healthcare, improving service delivery, addressing emerging health concerns, and enhancing community engagement, resource mobilisation, and strategic partnerships to achieve better health outcomes.

Dr. Duah Afi also launched a new health initiative focusing on the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases and the promotion of mental health.

Speaking at the event, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, who represented the Member of Parliament for Tano South, urged stakeholders in the health sector to strive for excellence in healthcare delivery and emphasised the need for collective effort to position Tano South as a leader in health outcomes.

He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the Municipal Health Directorate and pledged to provide motorbikes to facilitate outreach activities. He also announced plans by the Assembly to construct a new Outpatient Department (OPD) at the Bechem Government Hospital.

Additionally, Hon. Frimpong disclosed that the Assembly would allocate 10 per cent of its Common Fund to support health initiatives, renovate existing health centres, and construct new Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds in communities such as Old Brosankro and Kofi Tamkrom.

He commended the Health Directorate for its efforts and called on residents to support the municipality's transformative health agenda aimed at building a resilient health system that serves every individual effectively.
